You can trace the email ID to find out who sent a particular message.
The email ID is the name or ID behind the person who sent the email. Although you can look up email IDs in web searches, or look through databases to see who owns an email, the best way to trace an email ID is to figure out what computer an email comes from. With so many free email programs out there, anyone can use an email ID, so finding the IP address allows you to get a better idea of who is sending a message.
Instructions
1. Click the email that was sent by the email ID you would like to trace. You need to open a message from the email ID to trace it, so if he hasn't sent you something, get him to.
2. Click "Display," "Headers," "More" or "Show more" if it appears underneath the "To" and "From" sections. This will display the email headers. Scroll through these pieces of information until you find "IP Address." Read all of the headers. If IP address is listed more than once, take the last occurrence of the listing.
3. Type the IP Address into an IP Address locator site. These are sites found all over the Internet (see Resources). Then click "Search." You'll get back information about the Internet Service Provider, including the person's location and name. You'll need to call the provider or contact it directly to finish tracing the email ID.
