Self-publishing has become a popular way to publish books online, in hardcover, paperback and ebook. Companies like Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing, Barnes & Noble's Pubit and Lulu have ebook creator programs. Upload, publish and sell your ebooks after using their programs. While all ebook creators have a slightly different process, overall they are the same.
Instructions
1. Select, and register with an ebook publishing company online. Provide your contact information, and royalty payment selection. Verify your account after you receive an email from the company.
2. Select ebook as the type of book to publish. Read the publishing guidelines. Most ebook creators prefer Word files, PDFs or ePub files over other file types.
3. Upload your ebook file. Wait for the publisher to modify the file to its specifications. Review the file. Files are usually created to review as a PDF. If the file is acceptable, click OK to proceed. If it is not, revise and upload again.
4. Create a cover for the ebook. Templates are provided which can be customized. Most creators allow you to upload your own cover art if you have it. If you are unsure about creating a cover, for a fee the company can create one for you.
5. Add an International Standard Book Number to the book. ISBNs identify and register the book by a 10 or 13 digit number. Ebook creators usually offer a free ISBN to their publishing customers. ISBNs can also be purchased through Bowker.com.
6. Set the price for your ebook, and complete the creating process. The ebook will now be available for sale.
