Prevent And Repair Mold On Aluminum Window And Door Frames

Eliminate mold for a healthy home.

When mold and mildew invade your home, you may smell it before you even see it. Mold, a collection of fungal spores, produces a noticeable musty odor. As if the foul aroma wasn't enough, mold is slimy in texture and comes in a variety of colors from green to black. Mold can aggravate respiratory conditions such as asthma as well as causing itchy eyes, rashes, and headaches. If your aluminum door and window frames have become mold's latest victim, cleaning it up quickly is a must.

Instructions

1. Line the floor under the window or door with newspapers. If any mold should fall, the newspapers make it easier to clean up.

2. Dissolve 1 to 2 tbsp. powdered laundry detergent into a cup of warm water.

3. Sponge the soapy water onto the mold with an old cloth or sponge. Keeping the mold saturated weighs it down so it is less likely to become airborne and relocate somewhere else in your house.

4. Wipe the area clean with dry paper towels to remove the mold completely.

5. Place the dirty paper towels and newspapers into a plastic bag and get it out of your home immediately. Throw it away in an outdoor trashcan. Dispose of the cloth or sponge that was used to saturate the mold as well.

6. Wipe down the area a second time with a mixture of chlorine bleach and water in equal parts to disinfect the area using a clean cloth. Leave the area to air dry.
