Sell Downloadables Online

Many people purchase downloadable products.

Downloadables, also referred to as digital content or digital products, are items such as photos, electronic books (eBooks), music files and art patterns that are bought online as files. Some downloadables, such as photos and music files, can be printed out or transferred to a tangible device. Selling downloadables online can be profitable, as long as you carefully plan how you will start your venture.

Instructions

1. Determine what type of downloadables you want to sell. For example, you can sell knitting or sewing patterns, digital artwork, eBooks, original music or activity pages.

2. Name your downloadables business and purchase a domain name from a registrar such as Go Daddy. In the event your preferred name is taken, come up with one that will be suitable for the type of downloadables you plan to sell. For example, if you want to sell art activity pages but the domain ArtActivities.com is taken, you can try the domains "ArtDownloadables.com", "CreativeDownloads.com" or "DownloadArtProjects.com" instead.

3. Subscribe to a download-capable selling platform such as E-Junkie, Digital Content Center or PayLoadz. These specialized online selling solutions will enable you to sell your downloadables to customers without having to send any files to them or process payments. After the customer pays, the e-commerce provider will automatically send a download link to them.

4. Market your online downloadables store by placing ads on relevant websites, forums and blogs (for example, if you're selling knitting patterns, place ads on crafting and knitting sites), listing your site in a digital content directory or launching a promotional blog.
