Making Greeting Cards

Create a handmade greeting card for special occasions.

Besides being a creative project that gives you something to do, making your own greeting cards also allows you to create a card that is customized to fit your needs. Whether you want a greeting card for a birthday, holiday or other special occasion, creating a handmade card gives you the opportunity to use a variety of different papers, colors, embellishments and sentiments that you may not find with commercial greeting cards.

Instructions

Preparing the Card

1. Select a piece of construction paper or card stock that is the size and color you prefer.

2. Fold the paper in half and score down the center using a scoring board with scoring blade or a bone folder (scoring tool). Scoring the paper gives it a more defined fold.

3. Punch out the two corners of one half of the paper using a corner puncher. This tool is similar to a hole puncher and gives the corners of the paper a decorative look.

4. Place the paper punched-side up on a flat surface.

Decorating the Card

5. Select a photo or other images you want to place on the front of the card.

6. Apply tacky glue to the back of the images and stick them to the front of the card.

7. Write a sentiment on the front of the card using a marker.

8. Open the card and write a message inside using a pen or markers.

9. Decorate the inside of the card with stickers or rubber stamped images.

10. Add any additional bulky embellishments, such as paper flowers, buttons or rhinestones to the front of the card using tacky glue once you have completed the inside.

11. Allow the glue on the front of the card to dry thoroughly before giving the card as a gift or placing it in an envelope.
