Unique Wall Painting Ideas

Painting projects can range from the one-day DIY jobs to the jobs for a professional.

Painting can be a simple or complicated activity. It can also act as a stage for an expression of creativity. The way a home is painted makes a huge impact on the look of the home's decor overall. Walls with a unique paint can act not only as a background for the rest of the room's decor, but as a central piece of the decor itself.

Stamps and Sponges

The phrase "unique wall paint" may conjure up thoughts of a task that will be either extremely tedious and time-consuming or expensive if hiring a professional to do the job. That is not always the case.

Wall stamps are exactly as their name implies: stamps designed to be used on walls. They come in lots of sizes and styles. They can be used to create large and elaborate patterns or can be used to embellish another wall design.

Sponge painting involves using sponges to create a pattern, or top coat, over painted walls. Sponges can create many unique designs. They are frequently used to imitate the look of bricks on areas such as the tiles surrounding a fireplace.

Murals

Murals can be a bold and unique or subdued and sophisticated way to add uniqueness to walls. Murals can be created on ceilings, entire walls or a smaller area such as a door or border of a window. Common mural designs include landscapes such as desert sunsets and waterfalls. Murals can even be painted onto specialized mural wallpaper and therefore can be removed.

An interesting way to add unique old world elegance to a room is with old world faux finish wall paint. These murals are painted to replicate the look of stones like marble and granite or other materials common in old world style.

Rough or Smooth

Cracked wall paint can create a multitude of distressed looks such as antique paper, a clear glossy crackle or the look of weathered wood paint. The "cracking" gives a worn effect as it is two layers of paint (a base coat and a top coat). These layers can vary in color and sheen. When the top layer "cracks" it exposes the layer beneath. Different media are used to create different crackling effects on walls.

Glazed walls are a lavish and modern wall-painting choice. This technique can be used to simulate the look of hard candy, pearls, high-shine waxed wood, or natural stones such as marble or limestone.
