Joan Of Arc Crafts To Make

Joan of Arc was terrified of fire, yet went bravely to her death.

Joan of Arc was a 16-year-old French girl who fought for France during the Hundred Years' War. She was captured and burned at the stake on May 29, 1431. Some 200 years later, Pope Benedict XV declared her a saint. Images of Joan of Arc abound; creating crafts that pay homage to this brave young woman is a matter of finding images of the young saint and decorating existing items with them or creating your own projects.

Iron-On Crafts

Find images you like of Joan of Arc and print them onto iron-on transfer paper, available at office supply and craft stores. Cut the image from the paper, leaving 1/4-inch margin all around. Apply image-side down to fabric and iron on high for 30 seconds, moving the iron in circular motions to prevent singeing. You can create Joan of Arc place mats, napkins, T-shirts, hoodies, pillows, wall hangings, dishtowels, backpacks and any other imaginable fabric items using this technique.

Collage Crafts

Collage is the art of gluing different images to a surface to create a new design. Cut images of Joan of Arc, fire, war, horses or French and English icons and arrange them in a scene that is balanced in color and composition. Glue the images to your surface with PVA glue, then brush with a clear acrylic sealer for durability and sheen. Use this technique to create Joan of Arc blank journal covers, pencil holders, mouse pads, wall art, cell phone covers, decorative boxes and any other imaginable craft on hard surfaces.

Desktop Publishing Crafts

Find images you like of Joan of Arc and import them into a desktop publishing program, such as Microsoft Word Publishing Layout or Printmaker. Manipulate the images any way you like -- posterize, colorize, crop or layer, for example -- and create calendars, playing cards, CD covers, book covers, wall art, stickers, posters, signs and any other imaginable paper products. You can also print images, cut them out and use them for collages or to decorate items, such as tissue boxes, pencil boxes or matchboxes for the fireplace.

Magnet Crafts

Purchase plain magnets, available in a variety of shapes and sizes at craft stores and create your own refrigerator magnets using images of Joan of Arc. Glue tiny images to the backs of flat, clear glass marbles so the image is visible through the top. Glue a small magnet to the back; make a set of magnets using this technique. Magnetic business cards with a sticky back can be used to make a set of flat rectangular Joan of Arc magnets. Small collages can be glued to flat wood pieces, also available at craft stores, then backed with a magnet for artful refrigerator magnets.
