Start A Wire Sculpture

With wire sculpture, as with most projects, the key is to start with the foundations and work your way to the details. Learn all the details from start to finish. Creating a wire sculpture doesn't take very much time, and you'll have something to show off once you're finished!

Instructions

Start a Wire Sculpture

1. Begin by sketching out your wire sculpture on a sketch pad. Figure out the approximate shape and size.

2. Sketch out the key structural components. Most wire sculptures have a skeleton consisting of a few thick wires at the center of the sculpture, which serve to hold the rest up. Design your skeleton.

3. Get a rectangular base, if necessary. Many wire sculptures are free standing, but others need a base. A square or rectangular piece of wood should work fine.

4. Build the skeleton. Twist the main pieces of wire together, then solder or weld them to reinforce the joints. Tape or glue can also be used, but it generally doesn't look as good.

5. Attach the skeleton to the base. There are many ways to do this. One of the best is to simply drill holes in the base to stick the main wires into. Then, epoxy the wires in place.
