Start A Group On Facebook

Any Facebook user is allowed to create a group.

Facebook groups make it possible to connect with a small sector of your friend list or the Facebook community. Create a group based on your favorite hobby, or use the group platform to interact with old college friends. Once a group is created, all members have access to the group's wall for posting comments or links. Just like a profile, a group has a photo feature to display images relevant to group members. Starting a group takes just a few minutes.

Instructions

1. Point your Internet browser to Facebook.com and sign in to your account.

2. Click the "Create a Group" link in the sidebar, located on the left side of your homepage.

3. Enter a name for your new group in the field at the top of the "Create Group" pop-up window that opens. Use the drop-down menu immediately to the left of the name to select an icon that will appear at the top of your page. More than 40 icons are available, and range from a soccer ball to a dog bone. Choose the icon most appropriate for the type of group you are creating.

4. Enter the names of the people you want to add as members in the second field of the pop-up window. You are allowed to add any person on your friend list as a group member.

5. Select a privacy setting for your group using the drop-down menu at the bottom of the window. Public groups are visible to everyone on Facebook and may be joined without permission from an administrator. Secret groups are entirely hidden, and only group members will know they exist. The name and member list of a closed group is visible to everyone, but all other content is only visible to members, and people must ask permission to join.

6. Click the blue "Create" button at the bottom of the window to officially start your group.
