Paint a Two-Foot by Four-Foot US Flag
The American flag is a symbol of freedom, spirit and pride. Painting the flag on a canvas or cloth is a great way to display one's own artistic abilities and country pride. The spirit of flag painting goes back many years and each artist has their own interpretation. You will need only a few supplies and a large workspace to complete the project.
Instructions
1. Measure out a 1-by-1-foot square section from the upper left corner of the cloth. Trace the square with a marker. This is where the blue paint and white stars will be placed on the flag. Measure the flag from top to bottom and divide by 13, as that is the number of stripes you will paint on the flag. Use the ruler and marker to draw the lines for each stripe. There will be seven red and six white stripes on the flag.
2. Lay out strips of the painters tape to mark the lines of each of the stripes. Also lay out the tape outlining the box for the stars.
3. Pour the red paint into the paint roller pan. Use the paint roller brush to apply the paint evenly on the cloth. The top stripe on the flag is red and the bottom is also red. Push the roller back and forth until all seven stripes have been painted.
4. Pour the white paint into a new paint roller pan. Again, repeating the process, apply the white paint evenly on the cloth. You will paint six stripes onto the flag.
5. Pour the blue paint into a smaller paint roller pan. Apply the paint into the square you have marked off. This should not take much paint to complete the job.
6. Wait until the blue paint has completely dried before placing the star stencil onto the blue section of the flag. In order to fit all 50 stars, you will want to use a stencil that is between 1/2 inch to 1 inch in size. Take a small thin paint brush and dip it into the white paint. Paint the inside of the stencil until you have made a complete star. Repeat this as often as needed until the stars are added.
7. Remove the painter tape to reveal an evenly painted flag on your cloth.
