Voice acting is a wide field that covers both voice overs for television, movies, video games and commercials and general narration for corporate presentations. However, while voice acting can be extremely profitable, it is a difficult field to break into precisely because many individuals try to succeed in the field. If you are trying to make it in voice acting, there are same basic tips, both for making your voice sound better and for finding jobs, that you should consider to better prepare yourself.

Physical Tips

Of course, the most important part about breaking into voice acting is perfecting your physical talents. There are a lot of aspects to voice acting beyond simply having a distinctive voice. Voice acting is as much about acting as it is your voice; knowing when to inflect your tone to reflect emotion is important to succeeding at voice acting. Beyond tone, other important physical tools to master are your voice's pitch, master and speed. Many acting classes also specialize in improving voice acting; taking a class is highly recommended before trying to find a voice acting job.

Resume

Your resume is important to obtaining a voice acting job. Beyond the resume basics (education, relevant work experience, etc.), a voice acting resume should include what type of voice you have, as well as specify any unique aspect of it, including regional accent, your pitch and any special talents or famous individuals who you sound similar to.

Make a Demo

Along with the resume, preparing a strong voice demo is important to getting a voice acting job. A voice demo should be short (less than two minutes), but should still have several different samples (each around 10 to 20 seconds) to show your range. If you can, pay for a professional sound engineer to prepare your sample to ensure a clear quality in your demo so you do not have to worry about the technical aspect of the demo and can instead focus on making your voice sound as good as possible.
