Things To Do In Seoul Korea

Things to Do in Seoul Korea

Seoul is often overshadowed by its larger neighbors, China and Japan. But it should not be. The city offers an insight into one of the most interesting cultures in Asia, from ancient palaces to craft markets to a walkway crisscrossed by a fast moving stream that connects some of Seoul's most interesting places.

Historical Sites

Seoul features several palaces built by former kings. These palaces date back to the 14th century. All are centrally located, offer both self-guided and escorted tours, and provide a glimpse into the ordered and harmonious architecture of Korea. Not to be missed is Changdeokgung Palace, a World Heritage site.

Features

Take a stroll along the fast-moving Cheonggyecheon Stream and experience both new and old Seoul. While skyscrapers soar overhead, the below-street level walkway features descriptive tiles that depict Seoul's colorful history.

Crafts and Food

Located not far from Gyeongbokgung Palace, explore Insadong Street and the surrounding area. Korean craft shops abound, as well as restaurants featuring Korean food.

Entertainment Amidst History

Visit Hanok Village in central Seoul where houses from different eras have been re-located to form a village, and furnished with period furniture. A stage features Korean traditional music and dance.

Outside Seoul

A short ride (bus tours available) takes you to the DMZ, the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea. It is possible to gaze across the line, as well as visit a museum dedicated to the history of this conflict.

Expert Insight

A special time to visit is during the Hi Seoul Festival, a performing arts gala. Some venues feature palace locations, as well as Seoul Plaza. Timing varies, so check the website at hiseoulfest.org.
