Set Up A Recording Booth

Use an empty closet to make a simple recording booth.

With computer technology recording software, you can set up a recording booth just about anywhere. Old-fashioned recording booths required large amounts of space for equipment like reel-to-reel recorders, big sound mixing boards, and the booth itself. A laptop computer with recording studio software makes using a smaller space as a recording booth possible. You can even use a small walk-in closet as your recording booth. This setup is designed to make it easy for one person to operate and control the recording booth.

Instructions

1. Select a 4 x 6 empty closet or a small room. Make sure the space is large enough for all your equipment.

2. Cut the pads to fit each wall and tack them to each wall. This insulates the walls and keeps the sound from bouncing around the room, which gives you better sound quality on your recording.

3. Put the table against the wall in one corner of the room, and put the laptop on top of the table. Plug the computer into the multi-power strip and plug the power strip into an outlet. If the space doesn't have an electrical outlet, you can use an extension cord. Run the cord along and tack it to the baseboard. This keeps people from tripping or accidentally pulling your equipment off the table.

4. Place your stool and microphone stands in the room. Connect the headphones and microphones to the computer. Your recording booth is now ready for use.
