Maine Art Grants

Individual artist fellowships are available in Maine.


The Maine Arts Commission (MAC) is a state government run organization offering a generous range of grants to individual artists, arts organizations and communities around the state of Maine. Applicants for Maine Arts Commission grants must apply through the eGrant system. Information on apply is available at the Maine Arts Commission website. The Maine College of Arts (MECA) makes grant funds available to art students through its financial aid office.


Individual Artist Fellowships


The Maine Arts Commission awards individual artist fellowships to recognize artistic excellence, advance the careers of artists and create public awareness of outstanding creative work in the state of Maine. The grant amount is $13,000. Applicants must be at least eighteen years old and Maine residents for at least two years. Full-time students are not eligible for this grant.


Artists in Maine Communities


The MAC Artists in Maine Communities grant program helps cultural organizations create projects in conjunction with community groups, to employ Maine artists and deliver cultural programs to the people of Maine. The maximum grant amount is $7,500, with a one to one matching funds requirement. Applications are open to nonprofit cultural organizations and local, state and tribal government agencies in Maine. Applicants collaborate with artists or other organizations in implementation of grant projects.


Arts and Humanities


MAC collaborates with the Maine Humanities Council to provide Community Arts and Humanities grants, supporting public programs and projects that include both arts and humanities disciplines. The maximum grant amount is $1,000. Applications are open to local, state and tribal government agencies, as well as nonprofit organizations. Proposals must include a minimum of one public program.


CCED Grant


MAC offers the Creative Communities Economical Development grant to encourage government, cultural and economic sectors to work in conjunction on community revitalization projects. Applicants must display a commitment to cross sector collaboration to enhance the cultural aspects of their communities. Two grants of $50,000 are awarded annually.


Other Maine Arts Commission Grants


MAC sponsors several additional arts grants. Individual artists and arts organizations are eligible to apply for Arts Visibility Grants of $1,500. Other grant programs include Celebrating the Traditional Arts and Good Idea Grants. Details of these grant programs are available at the MAC website.


MECA Grants


The Maine College of Arts (MECA) sponsors a grant program for students based on strength of portfolio, financial need and academic achievement. Application and eligibility information is available on the MECA website.
