A standard business card might as well be blank.
You're going freelance or starting up your own business, and you want your business card to stand out in an unusual way so it will grab much-needed interest. Standard business cards are commonplace and can be overlooked by busy businessmen. You want to design your own distinctive business card so it will be noticed and remembered by all important recipients. Be playful in your design approach, and experiment with different materials to create an unusual card.
Instructions
1. Research the general designs for standard business cards. Notice how they are all rectangular in shape and are the standard size of a credit card to fit snugly inside a card wallet. Pay attention to the different graphic design styles of the business cards.
2. Make your business card more unusual in its design by introducing new elements that you don't typically expect to see in a business card. For instance, change the standard, expected shape of the card. Do this by creating the card shape in Microsoft Word. Click on "insert shape" within the insert tab. Select an alternative shape instead of the standard rectangle. For convenience, keep the parameters of the card within the standard size of a business card.
3. Design the content of the card with your own graphics. Include essential details, such as name and contact details, using the text box tool, and design a colorful logo to catch the eye. Use royalty-free clip art for your logo, which you can get from royalty-free websites. Design your own logo to make it original. Open Microsoft Paint to make a simple logo, then save and upload it to your Word document. Change the background color for the business card by clicking on "shape fill" within the drawing tools facility.
4. Consider areas of the card that could have design areas hole-punched out to create an unusual design effect.
5. Print out your business card on a single sheet of A4 Plain Card. For a clean edge, cut around the unusual shape of the card using a sharp craft knife and steel ruler. Use a single hole punch to cut out holes in the card or a knife to remove unusual shapes.
6. Accessorize your business card with other paper and materials. For instance, cover holes in the card with colored gel sheets, cover the back of the card with luxury textured card stock or enhance with beads or small craft emblems.
