Among Lexan's many applications is motorcycle windshields.
Lexan is a highly engineered polycarbonate plastic that is an important component of bulletproof glass, DVDs, prescription lenses and aquarium windows. Polycarbonates, like Lexan and Makrolon, resemble polymethyl plastics like Plexiglas but polycarbonates are much stronger. Despite its strength, Lexan scratches. You can't use scouring powders, steel wool or abrasive pads on Lexan because they all ruin the surface. You cannot use scrapers, squeegees or razors. And yet, many brand new Lexan products come marred with price stickers and other adhesive labels.
Instructions
1. Spray the adhesive with WD40 or kerosene. One of the principal ingredients of WD40 is kerosene. Let the kerosene sit for about one minute.
2. Wipe the kerosene or WD40 off the Lexan with a soft cotton polishing cloth. Reapply the kerosene or WD40 if necessary.
3. Spray the same area with isopropyl alcohol and immediately wipe up the alcohol with a fresh, soft cotton polishing cloth.
4. Wash the area with a weak solution of Joy or Palmolive dishwashing soap and lukewarm water. Other dishwashing products may work but Sheffield Plastics, the company that manufactures Makrolon, specifies those two detergents.
5. Rinse with lukewarm water and dry with a fresh cotton polishing cloth.
