Run Light And Sound Boards

Sound mixers also are called sound boards.


People use light and sound boards during various types of presentations. They are used during rock concerts and church presentations and even can be found in offices. What often is referred to as "running the boards" means that a board operator is controlling the light and sound during a presentation to give it the look and feel according to the person in charge of the presentation. Get familiar with how a light and sound board to run your next show smoothly.


Instructions


1. Test the lights or sound connected to the board. Sound boards and light boards are different but work the same way. Each light or audio connection runs into the board and is controlled by knobs and buttons on the board. Test each light or microphone by turning them on. Each microphone, light or set of lights are linked to a control. Push the button at the bottom of each channel to activate the control and turn it off and on.


2. Move the faders for each channel up and down to get a feel for them and how they affect the sound or lights connected to them. Turn the other settings for each channel on and off and at various settings to see what effect they have.


3. Run the sound board or light board according to the directions of the producer in charge. This will mean bringing different channels on and off at various times and turning each channel to various settings. It might take practice to get a feel for making transitions smoothly. Running light boards and sound boards can be considered an art.
