1. Determine the focus of your fan club. For example, you could be specific and start a fan club devoted to a particular band or broaden your vision and start a fan club devoted to a music scene, such as a heavy metal fan club.
2. Research whether or not there's a fan club like yours already in existence. If you live in a small town and there's already an Elvis fan club, it might be hard to compete. Fan clubs come and go, however, and yours might be more informative and enjoyable, so don't hold back if you really want to start your own; just offer fans a unique fan club experience.
3. Decide whether or not you want to be an "official" or "unofficial" music fan club. For example, if you wanted to start an official Taylor Swift fan club, you would need to contact Taylor Swift and/or her representative and get permission to promote your fan club as such.
4. Create a fan club website. Upload pictures, music and up-to-date information. For example, include information on upcoming tours, album releases and interviews.
5. Link your site to other appropriate music fan clubs and websites. For example, if you run an East Coast Metallica fan club, communicate with other Metallica fan clubs and cross-promote.
6. Promote your fan club to your target audience. For example, if you want to start a Kanye West fan club, post links to your site on hip-hop message boards and social networking sites and go to Kanye West concerts and mingle with fans.
7. Gather contact information from people interested in your fan club and alert members to new information via texts and email updates.
8. Invite fellow fans to help run aspects of the fan club. For example, if you don't know much about web design, you could ask a fan club member to become the website's official designer.
