Use Bottle Caps

The next time you open up a bottle of juice, beer, or soda, don't just toss the cap--save it. You can do a lot with bottle caps. They can be used for everything from fun furniture to unusual ornaments to creative art. You can even buy bottle caps online. These small, round pieces of metal or plastic come in all colors and sizes. With a little imagination, they can become almost anything.

Instructions

1. Use hot glue to attach a magnet to one side of a bottle cap; use it to hang items on the refrigerator. Personalize the magnet by gluing a picture on the front of the cap.

2. Glue bottle caps in place on various furniture pieces, then cover with a piece of glass or a layer of varnish, lacquer or resin to give it a new look. This take on decoupage can be done to tabletops, countertops, tops of stools, chair legs or whatever you fancy. You can cover surfaces completely or create shapes and outlines.

3. Glue caps to a painted piece of posterboard or cardboard, then frame it to create eye-catching wall art. Try using several bottle caps in various shades and colors to give the art depth. Or glue bottle caps to photo frames.

4. Create a hanging curtain by using a hammer and awl to punch holes in bottle caps and string them on wire. Hang the wires from the ceiling to use as room dividers, or hang in doorways.

5. Use bottle caps to create Christmas ornaments. Punch a hole in a large bottle caps and tie on a length of colored ribbon. Decorate the cap with paint, glitter or stickers, then brush a layer of rubber cement over the decorations. Hang and let dry.

6. Turn bottle caps into jewelry. Start by painting caps white, gold, silver or black. To make necklaces, chokers and bracelets, punch holes in the caps before decorating to thread with wire, cord or ribbon. To make a brooch, glue a pin to the back of the cap. Paint on designs, or use glue to attach crystals, sequins, rhinestones or beads.
