Remove A Bottle Cap

You must loosen the crimping around a bottle cap to remove it.

The first step to enjoying your favorite bottled beverage is removing the cap. This might seem like a difficult task if you've never removed a bottle cap before -- perhaps you are teaching a child who is more used to pull-off tabs on cans, or maybe you haven't done it yourself for a long time. However, with the right tools and techniques, you can lift off a bottle cap in no time with a minimal amount of effort. You can even use a technique that will preserve the cap in case you are saving the bottle and its cap for sentimental reasons or as a part of a collection.

Instructions

1. Position the bottle on a smooth, firm surface.

2. Place a nickel on top of the bottle cap if you want to preserve the cap. If you aren't interested in preserving the cap, you don't have to do this.

3. Position a triangular-shaped bottle cap remover over the cap. The cap remover should have three metal tabs inside. Place the lower two tabs under the edges of the cap, toward the front of the bottle. Place the top tab (which is in the middle of the base of the triangle) on top of the cap or on top of the nickel, if you are using a coin.

4. Pry the cap off gently by lifting the handle of the bottle cap opener.
