Sell Used College Text Books

Getting rid of used college text books after a semester is over can be a chore. It often seems like the books are only worth a small fraction of what the student paid for them at the beginning of the semester, regardless of their condition. Selling used college text books takes some patience, especially if the school bookstore offers too little for the books, but it can be done.

Instructions

1. Take all of the used text books to the college book store where they were purchased and find out how much the store will offer for them. Sell back any books that will fetch a satisfactory price.

2. Research book prices on the Internet to find out how much used copies of the textbooks are worth. Decide on a price for each book that reflects the market value and the condition of the textbook.

3. Try to find other students who will be using the used textbooks next semester and offer them the books at the reduced price. Be sure to have the full cost of the books on hand so that they will know how much money they could save by buying the book used.

4. Post any books that are not being used the next semester on used book marketplaces online. (See Resources.) Be sure to be honest about the book's condition and offer a price that is similar to or lower than other prices for the same text book on the website.

5. Take any books that couldn't be sold to a used bookstore. Although these stores may not offer much cash for the books, they will sometimes allow a trade. Trade the old used books for other books that can be used in classes the next semester.
