Types Of Murals

Wall murals are paintings applied directly to a wall for decoration in a room.

Murals are usually scenes or landscapes painted or applied directly to walls to transform an ordinary, blank space into a work of art. These can be indoor or outdoor, as well as temporary or more permanent. Murals can be used simply to mimic a different type of surface, or they can be elaborate large-scale storybook scenes.

Wall Murals

The most common murals are painted directly to an indoor wall to transform a plain space into an artistic scene. Sometimes these are simple landscapes, where the space is made to resemble one of the owner's favorite places to visit. Other times a wall is made to look like a window to the outdoors. These are often commissioned for a nursery or child's playroom, where the room is made to look like a storybook or movie scene complete with animated characters and setting.

Wallpaper Murals

Some wallpapers are designed to mimic popular wall murals. This is the most affordable and least risky option, as they are easy to remove at any time. Just apply a simple adhesive and place the wallpaper mural wherever you like.

Outdoor Murals

Often commissioned for private resorts and various public areas, outdoor murals are paintings placed on outer walls, structures and other surfaces to add a touch of art to otherwise blank and bland surfaces. Muralists have a variety of challenges to face if they want their art to last for any extended length of time. The mural's exposure to sunlight, rain and other weather conditions affects the type of materials and techniques they will be able to use. The location could even alter the artist's color choices, as some colors will last for longer periods than others.

Mobile Murals

Usually, mobile murals are large-scale scenes or paintings commissioned by request from a customer. But, instead of painting the mural directly on the wall, it is completed in a studio on a canvas. Once finished, the canvas is transferred to any flat surface the customer desires. A mobile mural in the home, office or business will give the owner the freedom to remove it if needed. If you move and want to take the mural with you, a mobile mural allows you to do so. This can make it easier to sell a house or office, and will make the new one feel homier.
