Spray Paint Ideas

Customizing your lampshade is just one creative way to use spray paint.

Spray paint is a versatile paint product that comes in a rainbow of colors, from earth tones to metallic. It is easy to use and apply, making it an appropriate choice for both professional artists as well as beginners. While there are many uses for spray paint in outdoor and industrial applications, there are also many ways that you can use spray paint for fun, creative projects around the home.

Customize a T-Shirt

Spray paint comes in formulas suitable for use on clothing. Fabric spray paint can be used to give t-shirts, tank tops, jackets and jeans an edgy look. Simply cut patterns out of vinyl or plastic sheeting and place over clothing. Lightly layer on the spray paint color of your choice over the stencil, building up to the desired color strength. You can also create tie-dye patterns using spray paint. Simply bunch up the cloth between your thumb and forefinger and twist. Lightly spray the fabric with diagonal strokes. Repeat using different colors and different sections of cloth. Have fun experimenting with colors and styles.

Brighten Up Old Lighting

You can use spray paint to turn an old lampshade into a work of art. All you need is your choice of spray paint and some spike tape. Spike tape is special tape that won't leave behind sticky residue when you peel it off, and it also comes in an array of color choices. Use your creativity to paint your lampshade. You can stick with one basic color and then add spike tape to the top and bottom edges for a finished look, create stripes with a color or two. You can even create a couple of lampshades and switch them out to match your mood!

Customize a Child's Lunchbox

There is a special type of spray paint that can be used to create a surface that is similar to a chalkboard. Its especially great for kids, since they can write away on it and you can simply wipe it off with a cloth or eraser. One fun project is to spray paint your child's lunch box with the chalkboard paint so you can leave fun messages for them in the morning.

Spruce Up Your Space

Old furniture, picture frames and even metal furniture can be given a face-lift with a few applications of spray paint. If you have a piece of brass furniture that is past its prime but still in good shape otherwise, a few layers of colored spray paint can give it new life. Wooden furniture can be given a few coats of ivory for a fashionable, distressed look. Spray painting old furniture is so inexpensive that it is a great way to create an entirely new look for your space even if you are on a tight budget.
