Set Up A Dj Booth

Being a DJ in a live setting can be a big change for someone who has only worked in a studio or controlled environment. Once you start mixing, there is nowhere to go. This is why setting up your DJ booth is an important step in the process of mixing live. Making sure it's done right is the most important key to putting on a good live show.

Instructions

Set Up a DJ Booth

1. Plan your setup. Figure out which items you will need during the set and where you want them to go. If you will be alone in the booth, have a supply of water and other beverages.

2. Arrange the setup that you are comfortable with. Most DJs prefer to place the mixer between two turntables on a table in the center of the booth. Lay out all of your gear. Assemble the turntables, connect your needles and make sure all your accessories are in place.

3. Connect the turntables (or CD players) to your mixer into the appropriate inputs. If you need to run a ground wire, do so. Run your outputs from the mixer to the PA system or speakers. Run your outputs to your personal monitor if you have one. Plug in your headphones. If you use a microphone, connect it to the mixer and assemble the mic stand if you need it.

4. If you are playing CDs or vinyl, have your collection easily accessible. If you are playing off of a computer, have it accessible and out of the way from the rest of your equipment. Plug in your headphones and make sure that you can reach everything you need without leaving your area. Be sure you can still work comfortably.

5. Once you have all of your components connected, plug them into the power strip. Now, plug in the power strip. Once you have everything connected, power up and get ready to start playing.
