Rhinestone Ideas

Add some rhinestones to your jeans for a little extra bling.

Rhinestones add a dash of flash to anything to which you attach them. They're easy to apply to all sorts of fabrics, plastics, and other materials if you use a hot glue gun especially made for attaching gemstones. You can let your imagination fly free as you come up with ideas for things to embellish with the glitter and fun of rhinestones.

Holiday Ornaments

Rhinestones added to Christmas balls give them an extra sparkle for the tree. Decorate the balls in patterns or attach the rhinestones randomly. You can also display the decorated balls in a clear glass bowl or vase, perhaps as the centerpiece for your holiday table. Rhinestones added to Easter eggs add a little flair and make them easier to spot in an Easter egg hunt.

Rhinestone Clothing

A plain dress, little black or otherwise, can become something completely new if you add rhinestones. Layer them heavily at the neckline and on the cuffs to make the effect feel planned, like something you might have bought at a high-end store. Add an accent stripe if you want a little extra glitter.

Handbags and Backpacks

Attach rhinestones to plain leather or vinyl handbags or to backpacks to give them some extra punch. If you're working with a daytime handbag, consider turning it into a bag devoted to your local team by spelling out the team name in rhinestones, or recreating the team logo. It's also easy to create basketballs, footballs or baseballs out of rhinestones on your backpacks or bags.

Calculator

Adding rhinestones to a little girl's calculator might make math homework seem even more fun. Place the gemstones all around the edges of the calculator, but make sure the placement doesn't interfere with the ability to use the keys freely.

Blue Jeans

Adding rhinestones to the back pocket of an old pair of jeans will make them seem new and fashionable again. Try making a star design, or experiment with rhinestoning a heart or your initials. If you really want to go wild, add the rhinestones at random all over the jeans.

Hair Accessories

An everyday scrunchie or hair ribbon can become special with the addition of some sparkling rhinestones. Ice skaters and dancers in particular are always looking for some additional glitter, and often need to keep their hair tied up, so this rhinestone idea is especially useful for them.

Shoes

A pair of flip-flops or Crocs plastic shoes can become something fun and special if you add rhinestones. On flip-flops, run a line of rhinestones down the straps. On Crocs, glue the rhinestones around the holes on the shoes, or add some on the strap as well. Make sure you don't add any rhinestones between the toes of the flip-flops, or on the sole of the shoes, or anywhere they might cause irritation when walking.
