Items To Create A Miniature Store

Constructing miniature items takes a great deal of patience and time.

Creating miniature worlds is a fun way for students to learn, and ultimately showcase their knowledge. It is also a hobby of many adults who enjoy making crafts. If you want to build a miniature store, you will need several things to make it realistic. These items can be broken down into several categories.

Structure Materials

Whether you choose to build a miniature grocery store, candy shop or clothing boutique, you will need certain materials to create a proper structure. Purchase thin plywood at your local hardware store and have them cut it to the measurements that you want for your outer shell. You will need a hammer and nails to fasten it together and wood glue to hold the wall partitions, if you add any.

Paint and Flooring

The color choices of paint depend on what kind of miniature store you want to create. Buy paint brushes, smaller buckets of paint or spray paint. If you are creating a hardware store, you might want to paint the outside a strong color such as black, red or silver. For a candy shop, choose a bright hue like yellow, pink or green. Paint windows and store signs on the inside with smaller paint brushes. For your floor, cut scraps of wood with a saw or cut small pieces of carpet with scissors and glue them down.

Accessories

It is possible to create some accessories on your own, but you can also always buy them from specialty dollhouse shops. If you have built a grocery store, stock the aisles with miniature soup cans, milk jugs and soda bottles. Make grocery items with construction paper, pipe cleaners, glue and a fine pen to write brand labels. If you created a flower store, build tiny pots out of the construction paper and place moss or blades of grass inside to give the illusion of a plant. For a bookstore, cut cardboard into rectangular shapes to make tiny books. With your fine pen, you can write various titles on the spine.

Customers

For your customers, you can buy tiny miniature figurines at a dollhouse store. To make them on your own, use air-dry clay and mold a body, head and limbs. When the clay is dry, cut pieces of felt to make clothes and glue them on your figure. If you would like to use paint to make facial features, make sure it is acrylic, tempera or watercolor.
