Recycle Beer Cans Into Ashtrays

Turn a beer can into an ash tray.

Beer cans, as well as soda cans, can make a quick and disposable ash tray for your next party or even for everyday use. If you have an empty beer can and some scissors, you are well on your way to making an ash tray. This tray can have other uses as well, like a coin holder, candle holder or even a candy tray. Try using different types of beer cans for a variety of colors. Experiment with different edged scissors or with how many strips you cut to get different designs.

Instructions

1. Wash out the can thoroughly with soap and water. Let the can dry.

2. Put on your gloves.

3. Cut off the top of the can, about a fourth of the way down the can. This will leave you with an exposed can.

4. Cut strips down the side of the can, so they parallel each other towards the bottom. Where you end your cuts near the bottom of the can will determine how deep of a tray you will end up with. If you want a deep tray, don't cut as far down. If you want a shallow tray, cut further down. The number of strips you cut is up to you. The more strips you cut, the more intricate the design will be at the end. The less you cut, the less intricate it will be.

5. Fold the strips at a 90 degree angle, outward, away from the can.

6. Fold one at a sharp angle near the center of the can so that the strip will overlap the bottom of the strip next to it. You want the end of the folded strip to be flush with the furthest side of the strip next to it. If it is not, either cut it to make it flush or fold the excess under the strip it is being folded over.

7. Continue this with every strip around the can.

8. Fold the last strip under the pocket of the strip that it's being folded over, to secure it. You may have to trim the last strip's edge to make it easier to fit under the folded edge.
