Weird Wedding Places In Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh offers wedding venues for the slightly offbeat bride and groom.

Planning a wedding can be stressful because it requires making so many decisions. One of the most important decisions you can make when planning your nuptials is where to host your celebration. Finding an unconventional facility that suits your style and budget can prove frustrating. Fortunately, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, offers a host of unique venues that can help you to make a statement on your big day.

The Union Project

Based out of a renovated Baptist Church in Pittsburgh's East Liberty neighborhood, The Union Project began in 2001, when a team of 11 people came together to revamp the dilapidated and neglected property---seeking to turn it into a gathering place for the culturally diverse community and aiming especially to recruit young adults. These days, the property hosts artists, classes and a cafe and even rents out its facilities for special events---including weddings. Wedding rentals at The Union Project include full use of the three interior spaces in the building. First, the Great Hall features a stage, soaring arched ceilings, 250-person capacity and stained-glass windows. This room is 3,360 square feet. Second, the Atrium is 1,735 square feet and lends itself well to buffet dinners. Finally, the Board Room, is 283 square feet and serves as an ideal dressing room for the bridal party. Between its unique mission and uncommon aesthetic, The Union Project lends itself to a wedding that is a little less than ordinary.

The Andy Warhol Museum

For a bride and groom who are passionate about art or who may just be seeking an unconventional venue, The Andy Warhol Museum, on Pittsburgh's North Side, could fit the bill. Part of the Carnegie Museum system, The Warhol is filled with the work of the renowned pop artist---a Pittsburgh native. Featuring three distinct interior venues---the Entrance Gallery, the Film and Video Center and the first through fourth floors of the museum---The Warhol is bright, modern and unconventional. Available spaces can hold crowds of up to 400 guests, and couples can tailor wedding packages, which they develop with the Carnegie Museum's event coordinator, to their taste and budget. Saying your vows next to one of Warhol's neon self-portraits would certainly make a statement and help to ensure that your wedding day is a unique and memorable one.
